Guest Reviews - Marrakech Hotel NYC

“A great bargain on the UWC”

Reviewed July 24, 2012 - Tripadvisor.com

It's always wonderful when one's expectations are completely exceeded. We booked this room expecting a mediocre, hostel-style room. Instead we got a pleasant, simple room with a nice TV, comfortable bed, well-appointed bathroom and an effective air-conditioning unit. We also got to interact with some of the nicest and most helpful staff I've ever run into...in a Manhattan hotel or anywhere. The decor in the lobby and hallways was beautiful, as well.

I am a well-experienced traveler and I am acutely aware of the trade-offs one should expect when one pays half of the going rate for a hotel room. There was no elevator, no in-room wifi, not much art on the walls and as above, a simple, no-frills room. On the other hand, the location is superb with a Starbuck's next door and a dozen good restaurants within a few blocks. We found on-street parking for the weekend and saved ourselves $100. I also am a stickler for cleanliness in hotel rooms and there wasn't a dirty surface in our room.

Every single staff person with whom we interacted had a smile on their face, a helpful attitude and an extensive knowledge of the greater NY area. Our son and daughter-in-law live just a few blocks from this hotel and this is our new top choice for when we visit them.

“Nice find”

Reviewed July 21, 2012 - Tripadvisor.com

When all the power went out in DC after the storm we decided to leave town. New York became our new destination. We wanted to go there and see the 4th fireworks. We found this hotel on line and booked. It is on the west side not too far from Central Park. We really enjoyed it, the staff was great and always helpful. You really need them to get your luggage up the front steps. Parking garage is nearby if you are driving. Starbucks is right outside the door and a great market is half a block north that makes great muffins every morning. The rooms are not large, but all we did was sleep and bathe there, so not problem. AC worked great. They have wifi in the lobby or you can step to Starbucks and use theirs. Subway is right there to take you to Times Square or anywhere else. We would do this one again. Our price in June was around 100.00 per night.

“Recent Stay”

Reviewed July 18, 2012 - Facebook.com

I recently stayed at your hotel from the 9th-13th July. Before leaving I read your reviews and was really concerned and considered switching hotels. Firstly, I'd like to let everyone know that the reviews you read are ridiculous. The Marrakech is certainly not a five star hotel - but the service is definitely worthy of a five star rating.

Upon arrival I was greeted on the street where a lovely young man carried my very heavy suitcase up the stairs to the lobby and to my room. I was checked in by Adam who shared a very welcoming laugh and smile with me (which was excellent after 20 hours of travel from Australia). The highlight of my stay was meeting Rob (Robinson) who really looked after me from the time we met. He called taxis for me, gave suggestions about how to see the city and was always there to have a laugh with my friend and I. He was the absolute best!!!

I should also mention for the skeptics that YES the rooms are small…But the beds are SO comfortable and after a long day of sightseeing the Marrakech was like coming home. Thank you for a wonderful stay

“Perfect For A Quick Escape”

Reviewed July 14, 2012 – Tripadvisor.com

My and two pals decided at the last minute to escape to New York for the Fourth of July. It was amazing in getting us a Double Bedroom for a great deal. The rooms are small, but manageable and are quite modern-looking with a flat-screen television. In-room wireless would be nice, but the lobby is fun to hang out in when you need to use the internet. The Moroccan flair is nice and the staff is very helpful and friendly!

There are no elevators in the hotel, but there is always someone who is willing to carry your stuff up the stairs. The hallways are small and narrow, so that they can try to give guests as much floor space in rooms as possible. You can tell the hotel is doing as much possible with little space.

Why should you choose this hotel? The subway is right outside the door and easy to jump on to take anywhere in New York. There is a Starbucks under the hotel and tons of amazing places to eat and drink all around you. The area is not crowded and is fairly quiet when rush hour is not happening.

Who is this hotel for? Couples, young adults, students, and people looking for an affordable and nicer place to stay.

“Thank you”

Reviewed May 1, 2012 – Facebook.com

I apologize for the delay but I wanted to thank everyone at the Marrakech Hotel for making my stay at your hotel in February so wonderful. I picked your hotel randomly while booking my trip and hoped for the best. I read some earlier reviews from years back and started panicking. I stayed 7 days, was in Room 14. I had free wifi in my room since it was right by the lobby which was perfect since I had brought with me an arsenal of electronics, from phone to IPod. The Starbucks directly below your hotel was a bonus. I loved knowing that every evening when I came home from walking around all day I could take a nice hot shower and slip into bed, which had the most comfortable sheets, and watch TV on my flat screen. My room was always cleaned, stocked with everything by the time I got home. Thank you all. I look forward to staying there again.
